 FAQs

  • No, even if you don’t meet a formal mental health diagnosis, seeing a psychologist can still be beneficial, and any concerns are valid as long as they bother you. For therapy to work, we aim to understand how a problem is maintained by examining the vicious cycle and influencing factors. The only difference is that, depending on your strengths and resources, we may recommend varying levels of treatment. For example, someone with emerging symptoms who is highly motivated might have spaced-out sessions and be prescribed self-help resources, such as reading materials or podcasts, instead of weekly therapy.

  • The duration of therapy varies depending on the concerns. For mild to moderate levels of anxiety and mood problems, treatment can typically take around 10 sessions. Sometimes, a break is recommended so clients can build their autonomy using the tools gained from therapy and return for troubleshooting or advanced intervention as needed. Work with clients recovering from trauma or complex trauma may take longer, but we prefer to have more frequent sessions initially (e.g., 1-2 sessions every fortnight) with the hope of spacing them out as we go (e.g., mostly sessions with occasional phone check-ins) to help clients build their autonomy.
